Some home health agencies do not have enough patients to obtain the targeted 300 completed interviews. For those agencies that have multiple locations and/or are part of a chain, can smaller agencies pool their patient populations and conduct one survey that will represent two or more agencies?

Home health agencies have different care providers and may operate differently. Their patients may have different perceptions of the care received. Sampling for the national implementation will be conducted at the CMS Certification Number (CCN) level. Some agencies have multiple locations sharing the same CCN. In this case, a sample of patients across all locations with the same CCN will be selected, so the results will represent all agencies that have the same CCN. However, if two or more agencies do not have the same CCN, they cannot pool their patients and conduct one survey. A separate survey must be conducted for each agency.
